Rail Ambulance Services in Mumbai
CodBlu Healthcare arranges complete rail ambulance transfers from Mumbai to Delhi, Hyderabad, Bengaluru and other destinations. The package includes urgent train ticket booking, road ambulances at both ends, medical staff, agreed equipment and two attendants’ tickets. Patients travel in Second AC with paramedical staff and a semi-ICU setup or doctor-led staff and a full ICU transport setup, following assessment. Transfers can be assessed from Tata Memorial Hospital and other Mumbai hospitals, including neonatal cases. For 24/7 medical coordination, call +91 9310864489.
This service covers planned long-distance patient transfers, including urgently arranged journeys. It does not describe emergency assistance for incidents on Mumbai’s suburban trains.

Which Patients Can Be Transferred by Rail Ambulance?
Rail ambulance may suit patients who need medical assistance during long-distance travel and can tolerate the complete journey.
The following patients can be assessed:
- Cancer patients: Returning home, continuing treatment elsewhere or recovering after cancer surgery.
- Patients recovering from surgery: Where prescribed postoperative care can be maintained during travel.
- Stroke and neurological patients: After stabilisation, including patients with paralysis, weakness or limited mobility.
- Bedridden and elderly patients: Requiring assisted movement, monitoring and professional supervision.
- Orthopaedic patients: With assessed fractures, mobility restrictions or postoperative needs.
- Patients requiring oxygen: Where the prescribed supply and monitoring can be maintained throughout the transfer.
- Selected patients with a tracheostomy: Depending on airway care, suction and respiratory-support requirements.
- Selected ventilator-dependent patients: Following detailed assessment of stability, equipment, staffing and journey duration.
- Selected cardiac patients: Whose condition and support requirements are compatible with the proposed journey.
- Selected neonatal and paediatric patients: With appropriate equipment, temperature care and medical staff.
A diagnosis alone does not establish fitness for rail travel. Current stability, breathing support, circulation, medicines, monitoring and the consequences of a delay must be assessed.
When Rail Transfer Is Unsuitable or Should Be Deferred
Rail should not be selected when its journey time or available support cannot meet the patient’s needs. Examples include:
- Active cardiac arrest or ongoing resuscitation.
- Shock or rapidly worsening circulation, including escalating support requirements.
- Severe breathing instability that cannot be managed with the proposed transport setup.
- Uncontrolled bleeding requiring immediate intervention.
- Ongoing uncontrolled seizures or rapidly deteriorating consciousness.
- Time-critical emergencies requiring treatment that rail travel would delay.
- Essential care that cannot be continued during the journey with the available crew and equipment.
- Isolation or infection-control requirements that cannot be accommodated appropriately in the railway environment.
These situations may require immediate treatment, further stabilisation or another transport mode. Reassessment may become possible after the patient’s condition changes.
Being unfit for commercial flying does not automatically make a patient fit for rail travel.
Rail Transfer Planning for Tata Memorial Hospital Patients
Tata Memorial Hospital, Parel
Tata Memorial Hospital in Parel is a major specialist cancer hospital and an important part of Mumbai’s patient-transfer landscape.
For an outstation patient completing a phase of treatment, rail ambulance may be considered when ordinary travel cannot provide the required assistance or medical support.
Planning should account for:
- Recovery after surgery and movement restrictions.
- Oxygen needs, pain control and prescribed medicines.
- Feeding requirements, drains, catheters and other ongoing care.
- Recent treatment, blood counts and infection risk where relevant.
- The patient’s tolerance of prolonged travel.
- Continued care at the receiving hospital or home.
A patient with fever after chemotherapy, suspected serious infection, uncontrolled bleeding or worsening symptoms needs clinical assessment before departure is planned.
Pickup from Tata Memorial must be coordinated with the booked long-distance terminal. Nearby suburban railway access should not be confused with the departure station for the selected intercity train.
ACTREC, Tata Memorial Centre, Kharghar
The Advanced Centre for Treatment, Research and Education in Cancer, ACTREC, is a separate Tata Memorial Centre campus in Kharghar, Navi Mumbai.
Families should specify whether pickup is from Tata Memorial Hospital in Parel or ACTREC in Kharghar. These locations require different feeder ambulance journeys and pickup planning.

| Mumbai → Hyderabad / Secunderabad | ₹70,000 | ₹1,10,000 |
| Mumbai → Bengaluru / Bangalore | ₹75,000 | ₹1,15,000 |
Other destinations, including Patna, Varanasi, Lucknow and Kolkata, can be quoted on request.
Everything From Ambulances to Tickets Is Included
These indicative prices cover the complete agreed end-to-end transfer. CodBlu handles every stage, including urgent ticket booking.
The package includes:
- Road ambulance pickup from the hospital or agreed starting location.
- Ambulance transfer to the departure railway station.
- Train tickets for the patient, medical crew and included attendants.
- Medical staff and agreed equipment for the selected package.
- Medical support throughout the train journey.
- A receiving road ambulance at the destination station.
- Final drop at the agreed hospital, home or other destination.
Families do not need to book the train tickets or arrange either connecting ambulance separately.
The written quotation confirms the pickup address, destination and assessed requirements. These prices apply to the specified departures from Mumbai. Reverse journeys, other origins and different destinations require separate quotations. Neonatal requirements are assessed and quoted individually.
Mumbai to Delhi: Rail Versus Charter Cost
The stated Mumbai-to-Delhi doctor-led rail package with a full ICU transport setup costs ₹1.15 lakh. An indicative charter air ambulance planning cost is around ₹8–10 lakh or more, subject to a current quotation.
The difference can be substantial for a patient medically suitable for rail. However, the options have different journey lengths and clinical limitations. Time-sensitive treatment may require air transport despite the higher cost.
Charter pricing varies with aircraft availability, positioning, aircraft type, medical requirements and ground arrangements.

Mumbai Routes and Approximate Train Journey Times
Scheduled train time excludes hospital pickup, boarding, arrival handling and the final ambulance journey.
| Route | Example service to assess | Approximate scheduled train journey |
|---|---|---|
| Mumbai → Delhi | Mumbai Central–New Delhi Rajdhani | About 16 hours |
| Mumbai → Hyderabad / Secunderabad | LTT–Secunderabad Duronto | About 12½ hours |
| Mumbai → Bengaluru / Bangalore | CSMT–KSR Bengaluru Udyan Express | About 22 hours |
These are planning benchmarks, not promised transfer durations. The current timetable, operating date and Second AC berth availability must be confirmed before booking. Other services may take longer.
Mumbai to Delhi Rail Ambulance
Mumbai Central’s Delhi-bound Rajdhani options can be considered for patients able to tolerate an overnight journey. The chosen train determines the arrival station and onward ambulance route.
Provide the exact receiving address in Delhi, Gurugram or Noida. The final road journey affects total transfer time and must be included in the medical plan.
Mumbai to Hyderabad or Secunderabad Rail Ambulance
The LTT–Secunderabad Duronto is one possible option, but it is not a daily service. An urgent transfer may require another suitable available train.
The selected arrival station and ambulance journey into Hyderabad are planned around the receiving address. Oxygen, medicines, power and staffing must cover the complete transfer.
Mumbai to Bengaluru or Bangalore Rail Ambulance
The Udyan Express provides an approximately 22-hour scheduled benchmark to KSR Bengaluru. Other services and arrival terminals can change both the rail journey and final ambulance transfer.
Patients requiring sustained support need a care plan for the extended journey and potential delays. Train selection considers journey length, suitable berths and readiness at the destination.
Major Hospitals in Mumbai and the Metropolitan Region
The following hospital locations are relevant when planning the connection between the patient’s hospital and the booked train. Provide the exact campus, building and ward, particularly where a hospital group has multiple facilities.

Choosing the Departure Terminal
Mumbai has several long-distance terminals. The booked train determines where the patient boards.
- Mumbai Central, MMCT: Relevant to the Mumbai Central–Delhi Rajdhani example.
- Lokmanya Tilak Terminus, LTT: Relevant to the Secunderabad Duronto example.
- Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus, CSMT: Relevant to the Udyan Express example.
- Bandra Terminus, BDTS: Used when specified by the selected train. It should not be confused with suburban Bandra station.
A pickup from Parel, South Mumbai, Bandra or Andheri creates a different road journey. For patients starting in Powai, Mulund, Thane, Dombivli, Kalyan or Navi Mumbai, the feeder ambulance journey may be a substantial part of the transfer.
Traffic, heavy rain, discharge timing and platform access should be considered together. Boarding at a nearer intermediate station also needs assessment because a short halt may provide insufficient time to move the patient and equipment.

The Complete Hospital-to-Destination Process
Every rail ambulance transfer follows the same end-to-end pathway, with support adapted to the patient.
The patient is collected from the hospital or agreed starting location in a road ambulance with the assessed medical support. The accompanying team receives the relevant handover.
The ambulance takes the patient to the confirmed terminal. Pickup timing allows for the road journey, station access and boarding arrangements.
The team assists with boarding and accompanies the patient with the agreed equipment. Prescribed care and monitoring continue throughout the train journey.
The patient is assisted off the train and transferred into the receiving road ambulance. These arrangements are coordinated with the train’s actual arrival.
The receiving ambulance takes the patient to the agreed hospital, home or other destination. A medical handover is provided where required.
CodBlu coordinates the entire process. Everything from ambulance arrangements to train tickets is handled by CodBlu and included in the agreed package cost.
Medical Packages and Second AC Bookings
Paramedical Staff With Semi-ICU Setup
This package provides support matched to the assessed patient’s needs and includes four tickets:
- One for the patient.
- One for the paramedical professional.
- Two for attendants.
An accompanying doctor is not included in this package.
Doctor-Led Staff With Full ICU Transport Setup
This package includes five tickets:
- One for the patient.
- Two for the medical crew, including the doctor.
- Two for attendants.
Advanced equipment is selected according to the care plan. Where required, this may include a transport ventilator, monitoring, suction and infusion devices.
The doctor is included within the two-person medical crew. A full ICU transport setup still has space, access and treatment limitations compared with a hospital ICU.
Train Selection and Urgent Booking
CodBlu books Second AC berths on the fastest suitable available train, preferably a Rajdhani where appropriate for the route.
Urgent ticket booking is handled by CodBlu, subject to suitable train and berth availability. Booking four or five tickets does not privately reserve an entire railway coach.
For the broader service explanation, visit CodBlu’s main rail ambulance page.
Equipment With Independent Battery Backup
Powered medical equipment carries its own battery backup. If train electricity is interrupted, equipment can continue operating within its available battery runtime.
Battery backup is finite. Planning must account for device charge, journey length, possible delays and available power arrangements.
Oxygen supply is assessed separately from electrical backup. A patient requiring oxygen or ventilation needs a supply plan covering the complete transfer.

Neonatal Rail Transfers From Mumbai
CodBlu provides neonatal rail transport for newborns assessed as suitable for the journey.
The setup may include a transport incubator, appropriately sized monitoring and prescribed respiratory support. Thermal care continues during hospital departure, both ambulance journeys, station handling and train travel.
The baby’s temperature must be monitored. An incubator setting alone does not establish body temperature.
Planning considers gestational age, weight, diagnosis, thermal stability, breathing support, feeding, medicines, suitable staff and receiving NICU acceptance. A newborn unable to tolerate prolonged travel may need a different transport plan.

A Published Mumbai-to-Hyderabad Transfer
CodBlu’s published case account describes a patient travelling from Mumbai to Hyderabad with continuous oxygen and intermittent non-invasive ventilation, followed by an ambulance transfer to hospital.
The account illustrates respiratory-support planning and destination coordination. Every new patient requires an individual assessment.
